Product engineering on a New York podcast-marketing startup - a three-developer team taking over a Next.js codebase and shipping features for the first paying clients.
Contribution
- Took over and stabilized an inherited Next.js codebase as part of a three-developer team
- New features and data-heavy interface work for the first paying clients
- Next.js services consuming podcast RSS feeds and an internal data processor; PDF export
Swap.fm is a New York–based podcast marketing platform. I joined as one of three developers who took over the Next.js codebase from the previous team and kept the product moving - the classic startup handover where you inherit decisions you didn’t make and paying clients who don’t care.
Over roughly a year the work ran the full product range: fixing what the handover left behind, building data-heavy interfaces around podcast performance, shipping a PDF exporter, and writing the Next.js services that pulled podcast data from RSS feeds and our internal data processor. The audience for every feature was concrete - the platform’s first paying clients - which kept priorities honest.
It’s the startup counterweight to a profile otherwise shaped by enterprise systems: small team, inherited code, direct line from a client request to shipped feature.
